Granules India: Profit jumps 40% despite rising input costs
Revenue increased by 20.3% in the second quarter, driven largely by North American demand for paracetamol.

Granules India, a major producer of generic medications, announced earnings on Monday that show a sharp increase in bottom-line results. The company’s consolidated net profit for the quarter ending September 30 reached 1.82 billion rupees, or $19.19 million. This figure represents a 40 percent increase compared to the 1.31 billion rupees reported during the same period last year.
The profit surge occurred even as operational expenses climbed. Total revenue from operations grew by 20.3 percent to 15.60 billion rupees. North America accounted for 72 percent of that total, indicating heavy reliance on the region. However, total expenses rose by 18.5 percent, with the cost of materials consumed jumping 23.2 percent.
Prasad Chigurupati, chairman and managing director, acknowledged the financial strain on the production side. He stated that cost pressures will persist and that the company is working with customers to manage them with a lag. The firm produces approximately one-third of the world’s paracetamol. It serves more than 80 countries through a network of 10 manufacturing plants, including seven in India, two in the United States, and one in Europe.
Investors had previously looked to newer product lines and US approvals to drive sales. The strong performance in existing key markets, particularly in North America, has helped offset the higher production costs. The financial results highlight the scale of the company’s global distribution while showing how input costs are squeezing margins.
