Kraft Heinz agreed on Wednesday to sell its North American coffee division to private equity firm One Rock Capital Partners for $650 million on an enterprise value basis. The transaction includes the Maxwell House and Gevalia brands. The company will retain a 30% noncontrolling equity stake in the business after the sale closes.

The sale fits a strategy implemented by Chief Executive Officer Steve Cahillane. He took the top job in January and scrapped earlier plans to split the company into two entities. That previous proposal would have undone the $46 billion merger completed in 2015. Cahillane has described the company's issues as fixable problems within its control. His management team has reinvested $700 million into the business to sharpen its focus on core brands.

Kraft Heinz expects to close the deal by mid-2027. The company plans to use roughly $500 million in post-tax cash proceeds from the sale to pay down debt. This move is intended to strengthen the balance sheet while prioritizing resources for areas with higher growth potential.

The announcement came alongside third-quarter earnings reports. The results beat market expectations. The company also raised its full-year 2026 outlook. The revised forecast projects organic net sales will decline by 0.5% to 1.25%. This is an improvement from the second-quarter report, which predicted a potential drop of up to 2%.

Cahillane said the operating plan to turn around the U.S. business and accelerate international growth is on track. He noted that market share, sales, and volume trends are improving in every region compared to the prior year. The company is increasingly meeting consumers where they are and providing more reasons to choose its brands.

Investors reacted favorably to the news. Kraft Heinz shares rose by approximately 5% during Wednesday morning trading. The price increase reflected optimism about the company's strategic direction and financial outlook.
