The Miami Hurricanes defeated Florida Atlantic 75-48 on Monday evening to open the women's basketball season.

The team held a lead throughout the contest at Watsco Center, marking the start of a six-game homestand. Miami shot 52% from the field, converting 30 of 58 attempts. The Owls managed only 31% shooting, making 17 of 54 shots. Miami missed six three-pointers, while FAU missed 20.

Anay Adams led the Hurricanes with 21 points and eight rebounds. She shot 80% from the floor and made both of her three-point attempts. Soma Okolo provided 11 points off the bench, shooting 71% on five of seven attempts. Gal Raviv recorded 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Gianna Corbitt, a transfer from Chattanooga, led the team with 10 rebounds in her debut.

The roster changes shaped the game. First-year center Anna Liepina replaced graduated star Ra Shaya Kyle, who averaged 14 points and nine rebounds last season. Liepina, a Latvian, scored her first collegiate points with a layup off the glass in the first quarter to tie the game at 2-2. The Hurricanes returned four other starters: Natalie Wetzel, Raviv, Adams, and Amarachi Kimpson.

Miami established control in the second quarter by scoring 16 of its 19 points in the paint. The Owls scored just two points inside during that span. The Hurricanes entered halftime with a 36-25 lead.

The margin grew in the third quarter as Miami scored a game-high 24 points. Anay Adams hit a three-pointer during a 13-3 run to extend the lead to 22 points. The score stood at 60-39 at the start of the final period.

The Hurricanes held FAU to three field goals in the fourth quarter. Miami outscored the Owls 15-9 in that stretch to secure the 75-48 result. The team returns to action Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. against Jacksonville.
