Isaac Nelson, 41, received a murder charge on Friday for the stabbing that killed Marcus Mitchell, 51, on Pratt Street in Meriden.
Meriden Police Lt. John Wagner said officers served the arrest warrant on Nelson while he was already incarcerated on unrelated charges. Nelson is currently held on a total of $3.5 million in bond, comprising $2 million for the initial incident and an additional $1.5 million for the murder charge.
Police reported that Mitchell was stabbed near the Green on the Green smoke shop around 6:50 p.m. on Oct. 23. Callers reported an injury, and officers arrived to find that Mitchell had run into the business for help. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died.
Wagner said Nelson was developed as the suspect and taken into custody several hours after the stabbing, though the initial arrest was for separate matters. The department identified Mitchell as the victim and confirmed the cause of death as a stabbing.
Wagner stated that the Meriden Police Department extends its condolences to the family and friends of Marcus Mitchell. The case remains open as the department processes the new charges against Nelson.
