A high of 48 degrees is forecast for Halloween in Vermont, marking one of the coldest October 31st readings for the region in recent years. The cool snap brings a crisp finish to the month across the state and northern New York. While the air temperature sits in the upper 40s, wind chills are expected to dip into the 20s overnight, making it feel significantly colder for those out in the evening.
The cooling trend began with a sharp drop in temperatures earlier this week. A Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect for Lake Champlain today. Northwesterly winds are building waves on the water. Dry leaves and breezy conditions have also raised fire weather concerns, despite recent showers. The skies will remain partly cloudy through the night as winds gradually ease. The low temperature for tonight is expected to hit 36 degrees.
Saturday will offer plenty of sunshine for trick-or-treaters. The high will reach 48 degrees, with lighter winds than seen on Friday. Dry leaves and low humidity will keep fire weather concerns elevated. Nighttime lows will drop to 33 degrees. Skies will be mostly clear, creating chilly conditions for evening activities. Residents will need warm layers, though heavy winter jackets should not be necessary. The calm winds and temperatures in the 40s provide a manageable, if cold, environment for the holiday.
Temperatures will begin to rebound on Sunday. Sunshine will continue as the high climbs to 56 degrees. Partly cloudy skies are expected as the low settles at 45 degrees. Monday marks a warmer start to November. Partly sunny skies will accompany a high of 61 degrees. The low will be 50 degrees with mostly clear skies. This shift sets the stage for a milder workweek.
Tuesday will be mostly cloudy and mild. The high is forecast to reach 63 degrees. Skies will remain mostly clear during the night, with a low of 55 degrees. The weather is set to be ideal for Election Day. Wednesday will be mostly sunny with a high of 63 degrees. Gusts are expected to reach 23 mph. A few showers are possible Wednesday night, with a low of 52 degrees.
Thursday brings a chance of scattered showers. The high will hold at 63 degrees, with gusts up to 23 mph. Showers remain possible Thursday night, with a low of 54 degrees. Friday’s high will reach 57 degrees. A better chance of steady rain is expected late Friday evening. The timing and amount of this late-week rain are still uncertain.
