Four people died and roughly 15 others suffered injuries following three distinct shooting incidents in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas. The events unfolded over a period of about 90 minutes late Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux confirmed the toll during a news conference on Sunday. He stated that the total number of injured individuals remains fluid because some victims sought medical attention on their own rather than being transported by emergency crews. Police have not yet established a direct link between the three locations, though investigators continue to examine the possibility that the attacks are connected.
According to a preliminary investigation released by the department, the first shot was fired at approximately 12:20 a.m. A second incident occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m., and a third shooting took place about 30 minutes later. All three sites are located within a half-mile radius of one another, a stretch of streets lined with local restaurants, art galleries, bars, and concert venues. The neighborhood markets itself as the premier arts and entertainment district in Dallas, and several venues had promoted Halloween events for that specific night.
Comeaux noted that the department had increased staffing levels in anticipation of the holiday crowds. "We had more presence out here, and this was something that we were ramped up for," he said. No officers were hurt during the incidents. The chief praised the rapid response time of the officers, noting that one successfully performed lifesaving measures on a victim. He also stated that multiple people have been arrested and are currently being questioned, though their exact connection to the shootings is not yet clear.
Victim identities and the specific conditions of the injured were not released during the morning briefing. Comeaux said it remains unclear whether the shootings occurred inside businesses or on public streets. The department is asking the public to submit any photos or videos captured in the area to help reconstruct the timeline of events.
This series of violent events occurred roughly six months after a similar pair of shootings in Deep Ellum left a 26-year-old security officer dead and five others injured. Comeaux concluded his remarks by stating the department intends to do everything necessary to get everyone responsible in custody.
