Robin Martin of Oklahoma City faces federal charges for sending hundreds of letters to government officials that contained a white, non-harmful powder and threats of treason. The envelopes were mailed ahead of the elections in 2024 and 2026. Federal authorities arrested Martin on Monday, and he is scheduled to appear in federal court in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, November 3.

The FBI disclosed in a court filing released on Tuesday that the white substance found in the mail was yeast or flour. Not every envelope has been fully analyzed. Martin is accused of spreading a hoax and sending threatening communications through the postal service.

The investigation began in 2024 when election officials in several states reported receiving mail with the white substance. The letters included three-page declarations of war. Some envelopes carried warnings visible only under ultraviolet light. One such warning read, “Stay on the right side of history! Your life may depend on it!!”

The return address on the mail listed “U.S.T.E.A., United States Traitor Elimination Army, Takoma Park, MD.” FBI Agent David Cole stated in an affidavit that one individual sent more than 700 packages. Each package had a different return address. The mail was directed to election officials, members of Congress, pollsters, media outlets, and federal law enforcement.

A common message in the 2024 and 2026 mailings warned recipients of imminent arrest for treason or worse. Cole noted that the letter writer described perceived problems with the 2020 election. The writer claimed President Donald Trump won the 2020 election and expressed concern that similar issues would repeat in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Federal authorities announced last month that they were investigating letters containing suspected substances sent to congressional and election offices nationwide. Recipients were advised to treat the mail as potentially dangerous. The mail led to evacuations in October of election offices in Louisiana and Oklahoma. Numerous states reported that their offices received the letters or that the postal service intercepted them.

The FBI said it has video footage of Martin’s car stopping at postal service mailboxes in October. The locations included Oklahoma City, Dallas, and San Antonio. Investigators also obtained Martin’s fingerprints from a letter addressed to FBI Director Kash Patel. The director’s name was written as “Kashyap” on the envelope.

Walmart records show Martin bought common household items like turmeric and vinegar to create invisible ink readable under ultraviolet light. The Social Democrats of the United States appear to have assisted the FBI in the investigation. The FBI believes Martin, using the name George Livingston, posted a message to the group’s email list in October. The message warned members they were traitors and could be arrested for treason if they voted in the November 3 elections.
