For the first time since 1982, Milwaukee owns the World Series trophy. The Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field to claim the championship, a victory that validates a strategy built on sacrifice bunts and aggressive baserunning rather than home runs. The win concludes a postseason run where Milwaukee went 11-2, including a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.

The victory carries weight beyond the trophy case. It arrives as Major League Baseball owners push for a salary cap, arguing that small-market teams cannot consistently compete against wealthier rivals. This Series marked the first time since 1991 that two clubs from the bottom half of the payroll rankings met in the World Series. Milwaukee ranked 19th in spending as of August 31, while Tampa Bay sat at 25th. The result complicates the narrative that money guarantees a title.

Jacob Misiorowski anchored the pitching staff. The 24-year-old right-hander threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits. He recorded 58 strikes on 86 pitches, though he did not strike out a batter in the first three innings, a first in his two-year career. Misiorowski left the game early due to a right calf cramp but received a standing ovation from the fans who occupied the section behind the Milwaukee dugout.

Offense remained efficient rather than explosive. Rookie Cooper Pratt hit safely in six consecutive games, setting a Series record. Jackson Chourio accumulated 11 hits, also a five-game record. The teams combined for just four home runs in the entire World Series. Milwaukee scored a major league-low 32.1% of its runs on home runs, while Tampa Bay was second-lowest at 34.4%, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

The Rays, who debuted in 1998, are now 0-3 in World Series appearances. They joined the Brooklyn Dodgers and Detroit Tigers as the only franchises to lose their first three Series. Manager Kevin Cash noted that the team is physically taxed but grateful for their performance. "They're banged-up and hurting right now, but just grateful for the way they carried themselves all season long," Cash said.

The 2026 Brewers finished with 103 regular season wins, the most in the majors. Manager Pat Murphy, who recovered from a heart attack in 2020, praised the team's unity. "This group of guys right here, the 2026 team, will be remembered forever," Murphy said. The championship ends a 58-year franchise history that began with the Seattle Pilots in 1969.
