Three blade-like objects with distinct claw features were removed from a carry-on bag at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Transportation Security Administration agents identified the items during a routine screening process on Wednesday.
Douglas Linn, a TSA officer, first noticed the objects while reviewing X-ray images. He recognized the shape immediately and flagged the bag for a physical search. Linn stated that he saw three blades with claw-like features and was amazed when the items appeared in his hands.
Dennis Oishi, the property search officer, conducted the bag search and confirmed the prohibited items. The objects resembled a combination of Wolverine-style claws and Freddy Krueger blades. After Oishi removed the items, the passenger voluntarily abandoned them at the checkpoint.
Supervisory officer Ann Rhoades described the incident as one of the most unusual encounters in her seven years with the TSA. She noted that when Oishi asked the passenger if there was anything sharp in the bag, the man said he was not sure. Rhoades observed that the presence of the blades made the answer obvious.
The passenger had not remembered packing the items until the agents removed them from the bag. The TSA confirmed the items were prohibited in the cabin. The incident took place at the airport checkpoint where agents handle suspicious carry-on luggage.
Linn has worked for the TSA for two years and said he had never seen anything like the items before. The agents worked together to identify and stop the dangerous carry-on. The passenger left the airport without the claw-like accessories.
