Major League Baseball teams extended qualifying offers to eight free agents on Monday.
Each offer is valued at $23.15 million.
The recipients include New York Yankees closer David Bednar, Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki, and Seattle outfielder Randy Arozarena.
Milwaukee first baseman and outfielder Jake Bauers, Baltimore left-hander Trevor Rogers, Minnesota catcher Ryan Jeffers, Pittsburgh second baseman Brandon Lowe, and San Diego left-hander Adrian Morejon also received the offers.
The $23.15 million figure is based on the average of the top 125 major league contracts from this year.
Teams have used this mechanism since the 2012 season.
Only 18 of the 157 prior offers have been accepted by players.
A player must have been with the same team continuously since opening day and must have never received a qualifying offer before to be eligible.
If a player signs with another club before the next amateur draft, his former team receives draft pick compensation.
The specific pick comes at the end of the first round or at the end of competitive balance round B.
The placement of the pick depends on the new contract amount and the revenue-sharing or luxury tax status of the team losing the player.
Players have until November 17 to accept the offers.
