Port Charlotte quarterback Logan Flaherty recorded his 100th career touchdown on Friday night.
The milestone occurred in the final regular season game of the Peace River Rivalry against Charlotte.
The Pirates won the contest 42 to 6 at Harbor Nissan Stadium in Port Charlotte.
Flaherty is leaving the local scene to play college football for Florida State University.
This victory marks the end of an era for the quarterback's high school career in Charlotte County.
Flaherty began his high school career at Charlotte High School.
He played his freshman season in a 4-7 campaign for the Tarpons.
Injury limited him to eight games that year before he transferred to Port Charlotte.
Since the transfer, he has developed into a complete player who can run and throw effectively.
Last season, he led the Pirates to their first regional championship in school history.
The team now aims for its first state title later this year.
The rivalry has shifted in recent years, with Port Charlotte dominating the series for five straight seasons prior to this game's context, although the reporter noted the last four years saw close finishes when coverage began in 2018. The reporter, who joined The Daily Sun in 2018, cited four consecutive years of games decided by seven points or fewer during that initial period. However, the narrative emphasizes Flaherty's individual achievement over the team's recent dominance. After the final whistle, Flaherty signed autographs and posed for photos with fans. He told reporters he practiced his signature in math class during his freshman year to be ready for this moment. He stated that he is not done chasing records and aims to surpass the county record of 110 touchdowns held by Mike Bellamy. Flaherty noted that while MaxPreps lists Bellamy's total at 104, he believes the standard is 110. He said he wants to show that southwest Florida can compete at the highest level. He urged young athletes to use their talent wisely and lead with good character. The quarterback plans to continue playing through the postseason to close his high school career with a state championship run.
