The SWAC standings shifted again on Saturday as Bethune-Cookman and Jackson State each absorbed a loss, complicating their paths toward a conference title. The HBCU football schedule entered Week 8 with a slate of results that separated the contenders from the struggling teams across multiple leagues.

In the SWAC, Bethune-Cookman fell to a rival, dropping its conference record to 1-3. Jackson State also lost, extending its own losing streak. The losses mean both programs now face a tighter race as the regular season winds down. Other SWAC teams used the weekend to solidify their positions, with several securing victories that widened their leads in the standings.

The MEAC provided its first conference results of the season, adding real depth to the league race. Bowie State continued its undefeated conference campaign, extending its lead over the competition. The Eagles’ win kept them in control as they look to maintain their grip on the division. Meanwhile, other MEAC teams managed to keep their own winning streaks alive, though the gap between the top and the rest of the league has grown.

The CIAA saw a disruption in its top tier. Tennessee State defeated a rival to improve its record, but the win came with questions about its dominance. The result left Tennessee State with a narrow margin of error as it navigates the final stretch of the season. The loss for its opponent was a setback, but it did not entirely derail its conference hopes.

In the SIAC, the race for the title remained tight. A top contender managed to secure a win, but the margin was small. The result kept the team in the conversation for the championship, though it left little room for error in the upcoming weeks. The SIAC standings reflect a group of teams all within striking distance of one another.

The CIAA also featured a notable upset. A lower-ranked team defeated a higher-ranked opponent, a result that shook the conference standings. The win was a statement, but it also highlighted the unpredictability of the league. The losing team now faces a steeper climb to recover ground it lost on the weekend.

Across all conferences, the weekend action ended several losing streaks and started new ones. Teams that needed a win to stay relevant in the race found it, while others fell further behind. The results set the stage for a final month of play where every game will carry weight in the quest for a conference championship.
