Yeovil Town manager sees rapid squad growth
Billy Rowley credits young players for Yeovil’s fourth-place finish but warns of occasional setbacks before Saturday’s trip to Halifax.

Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley stated on Friday that his squad has developed faster than he initially predicted. The Glovers sit fourth in the National League table after completing 15 matches this season. The team has scored 50 goals across all competitions, a performance Rowley described as exceeding his expectations for the group.
The team returned to winning form in midweek after a 2-1 loss to Altrincham. Yeovil defeated Hornchurch by the same 2-1 scoreline in that match. Rowley noted that the progress has been quick but cautioned that the journey will not be linear. He said the team would likely experience a few steps back along the way.
Rowley emphasized the youth of his current roster. Many players joined from leagues two levels below the National League. He explained that when performance dips, the squad must remain level-headed. The focus is on recognizing they are not finished products, training hard, and continuing to improve.
The manager also pointed to the strong relationships forming within the group. Players who barely knew each other before the season have bonded quickly. Rowley said results have been good, individual players are performing well, and confidence is high in the camp.
An injury concern looms over Saturday’s match. Jordan Norville-Williams suffered a hamstring issue during the Hornchurch game. He will undergo a scan to determine the severity of the problem. Rowley said the initial assessment from the physio suggests the injury is not too serious. The estimated recovery time ranges from ten days to two weeks in the best scenario, or three to four weeks in the worst.
Norville-Williams joins Joy Mukena and Joe Haigh on the sidelines. New loan signing Seb Naylor provides immediate cover. Naylor, a defender from Bristol City, joined on loan until January. He impressed on his debut and could step in at left-back. Rowley said Naylor fitted in seamlessly because he has always played in possession-based teams and understands positional concepts.
Yeovil travel to West Yorkshire to face FC Halifax Town on Saturday. Halifax sits 10th in the standings after a 3-2 midweek loss to Barrow. The Glovers have won three of their last five league matches. Halifax has recorded two wins, two draws, and one defeat in that same span.
Rowley expects a stylistically different challenge compared to Tuesday’s match. He said Halifax is a top team that has proven itself in the division over the last couple of years. The Glovers will need to be the best version of themselves to secure a result in West Yorkshire.
